Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Marine Industry Painter to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and applying coatings, paints, and finishes to various types of marine vessels and components. This role requires a strong attention to detail, knowledge of marine-grade paints and coatings, and the ability to work in various environments, both indoors and outdoors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old paint, rust, and other contaminants through sanding, grinding, or chemical treatments.
- Apply primers, paints, varnishes, and other coatings to vessels and components, ensuring an even, high-quality finish.
- Mix paints and coatings to achieve the desired color and consistency, following specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
- Use various painting techniques, including spraying, brushing, and rolling, to apply coatings to different surfaces such as hulls, decks, superstructures, and interiors.
- Mask and cover areas that are not to be painted, ensuring clean and precise lines.
- Inspect completed work for quality and adherence to specifications, making any necessary touch-ups or corrections.
- Maintain and clean painting equipment, tools, and work areas to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Work with other team members, including sandblasters, welders, and technicians, to coordinate work and ensure timely completion of projects.
- Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to prevent accidents and exposure to hazardous materials.
- Stay informed about new products, techniques, and industry trends to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
- Assist with other tasks in the yard or shop as needed, such as sandblasting, surface preparation, and general maintenance.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in painting, preferably in the marine industry and/or marine boatbuilding or fiberglass repair
- Strong knowledge of marine-grade paints, coatings, and surface preparation techniques.
- Experience with various painting methods, including spray painting, brush painting, and rolling.
- Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces, elevated platforms, and outdoor settings.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift 50 lbs, work in various weather conditions, and stand for extended periods.
